| | Abstract: | The Role of Satellite Communications in the Development of Rural and Remote Regions. With the rapidly advancing capabilities offered by broadband services, communities around the globe are continually discovering new sources of economic and social benefit, including healthcare, education, government, commerce, communication and entertainment. With substantial expertise provided by the Institute of Telecommunications Research at the University of South Australia, the report analyzes technically innovative and competitive satellite-based broadband communications options. The report then develops an Australian case study based on existing technologies and, in the medium term, on the design of two satellites to provide flexible broadband coverage of Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. While being consistent with Australia's National Broadband Strategy and with the International Telecommunication Union regulations, the proposed solution provides a model for rural and remote regions in other parts of the world to participate in the information economy. | | Host country : | Adelaide, Australia | | ISU program : | Space Studies Program | | Record link: | http://isulibrary.isunet.edu/opac/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5747 |
