| Title : | LunAres : international lunar exploration in preparation for Mars | | Material Type: | ISU Team Project reports | | Publisher: | International Space University | | Publication Date: | 2004 | | General note: | xxii, 122 p. : ill. ; 30 cm | | Languages : | English (eng) | | Descriptors: | Mars (Planet)--Exploration ; Moon--Exploration ; Space flight to Mars ; Space flight to the moon
| | Abstract: | Lunar Missions in the Framework of Current Space Exploration Initiatives for Mars. A shift in space policies worldwide toward the goal of human and robotic exploration has been proposed in Europe with the Aurora program and in the USA with the Vision for Space Exploration. Initially commissioned and sponsored by ESA, the report is also sponsored by NASA and Optech Inc. in Canada and has benefited from expertise from JAXA in Japan. It discusses the current gaps and overlaps between international public and private Moon and Mars exploration programs, it lists enabling elements and selects those that can be best tested on the Moon, and suggests a set of international robotic and human missions in which those elements can be rehearsed. Finally, the report gives a series of 28 recommendations for initiating and implementing the suggested program, including the formation of a loose-knit international coordinating body and the prioritization of operational and human aspects in lunar rehearsal missions. | | Host country : | Adelaide, Australia | | ISU program : | Space Studies Program | | Record link: | http://isulibrary.isunet.edu/opac/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5749 |
