Borrowing
If you want to borrow items, you need to be a member of the Library. ISU employees and students are a member by default. You
will be given a library card, which has to be shown to the librarian to
make a loan. If you are not an ISU employee or student, you will have to join the Library.
While the Library is open, items should be returned to the inquiry desk. If you cannot get to the Library during opening hours, there is a book return drop box outside the main Library doors which will be emptied the next working day.
Number of loans at any one time
- Students of the Master of Space Studies Program - 20 items
- Participants of the Space Studies Program - 10 items
- ISU staff - 20 items
Loan period
- Students of the Master of Space Studies Programs - 8 weeks
- Participants of the Space Studies Program - 4 weeks
- ISU staff - 24 weeks
Students following the Master of Space Studies Program in modules can borrow items for the same duration.
Please note that all items remain available for recall at any time (apart from Christmas and Easter vacations).
Reservations / Placing holds
It is possible that the book you have requested is on loan. In this case you can reserve it. To place a hold, sign in on the Library portal with your ISU ID credentials. Then do a search for the item you are looking for and click on the Place on Hold button.
Go to MyLibrary account to see what items you have on hold. Use the My Holds Tab.
As soon as the book is returned to the Library, we will email you that it is available for you to collect at the information desk. We keep the requested books at the desk for you for five days.
Extending your loan
To renew the items you have out on loan, log on to My Account and then click on My Loans and Current Loans. Here you can extend your loan for a maximum of 28 days.
Important note: you can not renew your items when the initial due date is over. You can renew books up to 5 times online.
If the document has been booked by another reader, you will not be able to renew them.
Returning books
While the library is open, items should be returned to the librarian at the library desk.
If you cannot get to the Library during opening hours, there is a return box at the left hand side of the library doors (in front of the elevator). Your books will be discharge at the beginning of the next working day.
If you are not on-site, you have to return the documents to the Library by post, using recorded delivery.
Overdue
Books must be returned by the due date to the Library. Overdue notices are automatically generated and sent out by e-mail.
Library notices about overdue items are sent via email to your ISU email account. It is your responsibility to check your email account.
The overdue alert email notice is sent when your loans are 5 days overdue.
A second notice will be sent 14 days later and the final overdue notice is sent when items are 28 days late. At this stage, your library priviledges are blocked and you can not borrow documents anymore.
