Library for alumni
Joining the Library
We
welcome applications to join the Library from alumni and retired staff.
All you need to is apply in person at the library circulation desk with
photo ID and proof of address in the last three months.
As an alumni member, you can
- Access the library commons during staffed hours
- Consult the library's print collection
- Borrow up to 5 items at a time for a period of 1 month (no renewals) if you visit the Library in person with a Library card.
Your Library membership will be for a period of one year, with an opportunity to renew at the end of this time.
In
addition, there is access to the library's electronic resources through
the 'walk-in' service. This service is available to registered members
of the library who are able to visit the library in person.
Online access to books and journals
The
Library is not permitted to provide alumni with access from home to all
our online resources because of the terms of the license agreements
with publishers.
You may continue to access our publicly available resources, like:
- List of relevant space-related databases
- Current awareness and alert services
- ISU Team Project reports and executive summaries
- Subject guides and reading lists
- List of new acquisitions and RSS feed to receive alerts
- List of sources on open access
Finding open access resources
A
great deal of scholarly research is available fro free online, thanks
to the Open Access movement, and a Creative Commons license may permit
the reuse of the research. To help you get started, the Library curates a
list of recommended free online resources.
Giving to the Library
Today's
students, researchers, and faculty expect information 24/7 days a week,
wherever they may be. The Library is the heart of the campus: a place
of knowledge and resources.
That
Library is constantly seeking to improve its resources, create new
services to engage more learners, encourage collaboration, create a
comfortable atmosphere and use new technologies.
ISU alumni have always been strong supporters of the International Space University library. Your gift will allow us to increase our printed and online collections for the benefit of students, faculty members and the community. Donors can support the collection and service by gifts-in-kind (i.e. your published book with a dedication!) or make a donation to the Library.
