Description: | The high launch costs have been recognized as “the greatest limiting factor to expanded space exploitation and exploration.” (Wertz and Larson, 1996). In this report, different reusable vehicles design and their functioning are explained. The costs associated with the various components are eventually analyzed in order to understand how commercial companies are trying to optimize vehicle configurations making them reusable. Leveraging reusability to achieve a reduction in launch costs will probably be the most efficient strategy to pursue, given recent technological demonstrations. |
