Description: |
This report is divided into two parts. The first part aims to theoretically analyze different types of electroplating techniques to find which one is the best suited to be used in the Space Payload Laboratory (SPL) of the International Space University (ISU). The report starts by providing a brief overview of nylon as this material was used for the structures of the Hydra project from the SPL and produced the need for this report. Then the analyzed electroplating techniques (paint plating, electroless plating, and electroforming) are described, and their advantages and disadvantages are
presented. The result of the evaluation of these methods sets electroplating and electroless plating as the recommended techniques for the SPL. |
