Description: | As witnessed by recent space missions, many countries are engaged in space programs with the ambition to reap the benefits of New Space companies' technology innovation and show their aspirations at a regional and global level. With the overall rise of the private sector in space, agencies and governments are increasingly dependent on private actors for a wide range of projects, from R&D to launching and operating space missions. As a result, more and more New Space companies have also been involved in public space leading programs and projects. However, for space agencies to leverage New Space companies' potential to their ambition, appropriate tools need to be used. Procurement is increasingly becoming a recognized tool to spur innovation and create new markets to adapt specifically to the New Space reality. However, as space procurement is not set by any international treaty but remains a State or organization's power, there are many different procurement rules. But since the New Space is a fast-growing sector covering a wide range of activities, procurements rules adapt to best practices. Therefore, they are tailored to consider this reality while supporting the increasing public demand and private supply. |
