Description: | This paper aims to provide a sociological analysis on the experience of female researchers in the field of astronomy. The project, Women in Astronomy (WIA) is divided into two sub-projects: Notable Women in the History of Astronomy, which highlights the important historical figures who helped build the foundation of astronomical theories, and She is an Astronomer (SIA), which investigates the present day working and social circumstance of woman researchers. Sociological phenomena and themes were explored through literature reviews and detailed interviews which divided by theme in the result and analysis section. Finally, the report looks to the future and identifies recommendations we can adopt to modernize academic institutions and messages to young girls, and what the next steps of this project could be. It is hoped this report will re-emphasize the duty of our society to keep working on bridging the gender imbalance in the STEM professions. |
