| Description: | The media entertainment multi-trillion dollar industry remains an untapped market for the space sector. This paper looks at emerging cross-market opportunities for those two industries. Examples of space downstream companies serving the video gaming sub-sector exist. Using satellite imagery to develop unique hybrid products, like Earth digital twins, is set to disrupt the video game market by enabling a new wave in world-building. On the other hand, video gaming is used for crowdsourcing and analyzing real Earth observation data to create space products. Traditional media entertainment business models and products from the TV and film sectors are expected to enter the space domain, with solutions like in-space movie filming being the next big thing. Two reality TV competitions of unprecedented scale set to launch in the upcoming two years have announced plans to send the winner of their shows into space as an astronaut onboard commercial space stations. These and more cross-industry activities are redefining the boundaries of the traditional space sector and are paving the way for an industry convergence with an unevaluated market potential. This paper outlines the current actors at the forefront of the Space Entertainment wave, their innovative solutions, and financial successes, and evaluates future trends. |
