Through a collaboration between the International Space University and the University of Sydney,an investigation of a prototype, CubeSat sized, propulsion subsystem for a novel electric thruster is conducted. This innovative thruster, based on the phenomenon of charge exchange, have a potential for major application in the field of nano-satellites. Investigations of the current available design
parameters of this Charge Exchange Thruster was performed, and the needed components and their respective electrical requirements was deducted compared to further investication of the thruster, with perspectives of utilization for CubeSat-missions. Based on these requirements, suggestions for specific components to use are given, together with recommendations on how to centralize the control of the full propulsion subsystem, via an on-board miniature computer, and how to control the propulsion subsystem wireless. Lastly, recommendation on optimal type of thrust stands to employ for most beneficial testing of this electrical propulsion subsystem is described.
