|This study investigates the use of a genetic algorithm to optimize the orbits of a small constellation of satellites for the purpose of Earth Observation (EO). For this a numerical simulation with an optimization algorithm was developed. In support of this study, it is argued that small constellations would be of use to organizations that wish for independent access to EO data and have limited resources in procuring a satellite constellation. This argument is supported by a literature review. Methods for augmenting this study are given in the concluding section of this report.
